These photos were taken in the James Bay Allotment garden this summer. I was walking down the street and a waft of ambrosia stopped me in my tracks. I turned my head and I saw this beautiful bushel of lilies cascading over the sidewalk. I ran over and breathed in the sweet nectar. Then I noticed the beauty. These were the first of the photos taken that day in the garden, the invitation, so to speak. I was most touched by the tender buds that hadn't opened yet, encircled lovingly by the petals of those in full blossom. Unfurled promise... Even the pollen was resplendent, as you may notice in the bottom photo, petals are powdered from excess.... This wood was a gift from a beach in the Saanich area and the wasp nest was found in the old growth forest of Carmanah. The oyster shell was found on Denman Island and the seaweed and stones from Hornby Island. All nature pieces were harvested this summer.

These photos were taken from a beach walk in Saanich the summer of 2016. I spent hours on this beach, photographing seaweed and fall leaves, light and treasures washed up from the Salish Sea. All the wood was harvested at another beach in Saanich this summer. The tangle of seaweed is from Denman Island and the Ocean Spray flowers are from Thetis Lake, also gathered this summer.

These photos were taken in a friend’s garden in outskirts of Zürich, Switzerland the summer of 2015. The dew drops are always a draw for me, especially when they reflect the earth and plants around them. I don't often take photos of industrial items, but lines are beautiful, especially when softened by water. There was something about the way the lines in the gate and the plants had come together that inspired these photos. The wood backdrop, beach glass and stones were gathered in Saanich this summer, while the large top piece was found on Denman Island this summer.

These photos were taken in Maui Hawaii, spring of 2016. This large pond was home to many beautiful lotus flowers in full bloom. I approached to photograph the lotus, but was struck by the light reflected in the water and the simple beauty of the leaves. The detail of the dew drops, lines in the lily pad and little creature also struck my fancy. All the materials for the frame were gathered this summer. The wood and beach glass were harvested in Saanich; the moss was a gift from the Carmanah wilderness and the oyster shell and orange stones are from a trip to Hornby Island.

These photos were taken in the spring of 2016 on a trip to Tofino. We were walking along a vast beach at very low tide. Water and sand make great companions in these images. The wood frame was found this summer, washed up in Saanich, a remnant of an old boat. The name shipwrecked references the ship origins of the frame, yet more adeptly describes me and the sense I have of being on a long journey to return home... The Birch bark was harvested from Hornby Island and the sea glass from the Salish Sea in Saanich this summer.

These photos were taken on a beach walk in the Saanich area, Fall 2016. I was moved by the variety of color that the Victorian sea offered, and surprised that the seaweed matched the fall leaves in their brilliance and fervor. The wooden piece was harvested from another beach in the area of Saanich this summer and is the remnants of an old ship. In a way, I feel shipwrecked here in Victoria, as my home is in Maui but my heart is here... The Birch bark and seaweed were gathered from Hornby Island this summer; as were the sea shell, stone and seaweed from Denman Island, also this summer.

The wooden frame and beach glass were found washed up from the Salish Sea in Saanich this summer, while the Birch bark, seaweed and wood piece were harvested on Hornby Island, also this summer. The little leaf was collected and pressed summer of 2016 in the Kitsilano forest area of Vancouver.

The seashells and seaweed were harvested on Hornby Island, while the tiny sea urchin was a gift from Denman Island, also this summer.

This tender shoot actually called out to me from the James Bay Allotment Garden this summer. I was wandering about snapping photos and was taken by a sweet scent. I followed my nose to the trellised sweet peas and bent down to breathe them in. I saw this ruffled beauty backlit and couldn’t resist! The wood and glass pieces were found on beaches in Saanich. The Birch bark from Hornby Island as well as the oyster shells. The little flower is a mystery, found in my journal…

This photo was taken the Spring of 2016 in the Kitsilano neighborhood of Vancouver. It is so deliciously intimate, the way a flower will unfurl her petals in the spring to reveal her core. The wood frame was gathered in Saanich this summer along with the beach glass. That Oyster shell with the heart was found on Hornby Island as well as the seaweed and stone. The leaf and orchid are gift from the past, found in my journal…

This photo was taken from a hike in the Haleakala Crater in Maui, Hawaii, spring of 2017. The day began sunny and then the mist rolled in, leaving a wake of dew upon everything. We could almost watch it form! This is one of my favorite photos for the depth and intricacy found in this tender droplet of water. Haleakala means "house of the sun"; aptly named, as the light up there at 10,000 feet has its own surreal quality. The frame was constructed from a beach harvest in Saanich this summer. The Birch bark and beach glass are from a trip to Denman Island this summer and the oyster shell is from Hornby Island on that same trip. The red leaf was collected and pressed summer of 2016 in the Kitsilano forest area of Vancouver.

This photo was taken in the spring of 2016 on a walkabout in one of Tofino’s forests. The curves and shapes of these trunks I liken to the lines of a woman's body. When I found these two pieces of wood they were a natural match and fit for the frame. There is nothing to embellish, but I did want to add a little bit from the forest so included some moss and lichen as well as a stone from the Carmanah wilderness.

This photo was taken during a self-created retreat in Valley Maggia, Switzerland the summer of 2015. What struck me about this image was the way these two tiny leaves are laying with one another, a delicate trace of water outlining the pointed tips of the brown leaf. The contrast of color and texture, as well as the differing rounded and pointed edges struck me...all nestled on a bed of thick and moist moss. The wood pieces were gathered in Saanich, the summer of 2016. The moss was harvested in the Carmanah wilderness also in the summer of 2016. The stone is a mystery… the shard of abalone shell from my sweetheart's collection.

This piece has quite a story! I saw the wood floating in the Salish Sea in Saanich. I saw its potential immediately and willed it to float right up to my feet! My sweetheart helped me carry it back home. The photos were taken in the Kitsilano area of Vancouver on a walkabout in the early morning of spring 2016. Living in Maui, I don't get to experience spring and cherry blossoms, so I spent hours taking pictures of these tiny tender flowers nestled in the grass. Gary Oak branches, maple leaves, and other various earth gifts embellish the frame.

These photos were taken at Thetis Lake, summer of 2016. I was mesmerized by the beautiful patterns in these lily leaves and the way they're intricately and colorfully woven together beneath the surface of the water. Water droplets are some of my favorite effects in nature, especially ones in the shape of hearts! The wood and various types of seaweed were gathered in the Saanich area of the Salish Sea; the barnacles I gathered at McKenzie Bight.

These photos were taken at Thetis Lake, summer of 2016. The first time I waded into that water I was taken by the stunning colors and patterns designed on these lily pads. I had gone into swim and simply couldn’t resist. I ran back for my camera and took these photos. I have a propensity for hearts, and found one in the center of this lily pad. The frames were made from repurposed wood.

These photos were taken after a sudden rain shower in Maui, Hawaii late spring of 2016. Rain and sun are constant companions in the tropics, and make for beautiful bejeweled reflections. The frame was fashioned from an arbutus trunk washed up here in Victoria from the Salish Sea.

I mimicked the tulip stamen in the frame. These wood pieces as well as the little shell were gathered in the Saanich area of the Salish Sea.

This photo was from my walkabout one early-morning in the Kitsilano area of Vancouver, spring of 2016. I was struck by these little flowers, the shadows and the single strand of spider's web trailing in the wind. The wood from this piece was gathered on a sunny beach day off the Dallas Road coastline. The wasp nest was harvested from the old growth Carmannah wilderness along with the lichen and moss. Beach glass gathered from the Salish Sea in Saanich as well as the stones.
